The Lands and Deeds department is one of three technical Departments in the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. This department has been established pursuant to Section 3 of the Lands and Deeds Registry Act CAP 185 of the Laws of Zambia, which provides for the establishment of the Registry of Deeds by the Minister responsible for Land.
The department is headed by the Chief Registrar who is assisted by an Assistant Chief Registrar. It is comprised of the central deeds registry at headquarters in Lusaka and two provincial offices, with one being located in Lusaka and the other being located in Ndola
This department is responsible for the registration of rights and interests in land and issuance of Certificates of Title to property owners in order to provide security of tenure.
The department also registers miscellaneous documents ,which are non-land related transactions such as; general power of attorney, trust deeds , agricultural charges , debentures and certificates of incorporation.
